The
River Range Warmblood Stud (RRWS) was started by Linda Shore in January 1988
with the purchase of Northern Classic (Classic) (pic
right), a 3 year old Holstein stallion from the Northern
Warmblood Stud which is run by Peter and Jan Powels in the Kyabram district
of Victoria, Australia.
This was the beginning of a long partnership between Linda and Classic which was to see them perform in dressage competition as a team until the end of 1998 when Classic was retired from competition at Prix St Georges level. Classic was still ridden up until late 2005, however he now enjoys his full retirement and is paddocked where he can keep a close eye on all the comings and goings at the stud. In February 2008 Classic will turn 23 years of age and is looking fabulous and still getting all his mares in foal as we certainly hope he will be with us for some time to come.
RRWS began covering their first mares with Northern Classic in November 1988 and to date Northern Classic has sired over 30 foals for the Stud with many of these going on to prove their worth in the competition arena. Northern Classic's Progeny have made a name for themselves as being wonderfully mannered horses with a willingness to learn and work which is second to none, combined with sound conformation and a talent for the higher level collected movements in dressage, and are also showing an amazing ability in the eventing and showjumping arenas. Northern Classic currently has progeny competed in all levels of dressage from Preliminary to Grand Prix and has had progeny exported for several other countries including Malaysia, Japan, Germany and USA.
1999
saw River Range Copenhagen, a 4 year old stallion by
Northern Classic who was retained by the Stud as an entire, compete in his
first full season of dressage competition. River Range Copenhagen became
the new partner for Linda in the dressage arena competing and training right
through to Grand Prix in 2005.
In March 2005 Copenhagen was sold to Japanese interest to be used as a Grand Prix horse. While he will be greatly missed at the stud, we have retained a full sister to him who will be used as a brood mare.
Linda
will now partner the young stallion by Northern Classic, Calcutta,
a wonderfully tempermented stallion with attention grabbing presence and amazing
paces. Calcutta completed his breaking in in July 2005 and attended his first
competition in October 2005. He competed in the 4 year old class at the 2006
Sydney CDI and finished a very credible 10th place against horses who have
been out competing before Calcutta was broken in. Since Sydney 2006 Calcutta's
progress has been a little slow due to injury but is steadily progressing
and maturing.
RRWS is situated 25km south of Toowoomba, on the New England Highway, Queensland, Australia. The stud is set up on an 80 acre property in the rich horse country of the Downs. All young stock are paddock raised and well grown on good pastures.
A large number of our broodmares to date have been registered thoroughbreds chosen for their conformation, temperment and movement. We are now progressing into the exicting time of being able to breed back to some of our lovely Warmblood mares by Northern Classic, including full sisters to Grand Prix dressage horses RR Copenhagen and Liaison. 2005 saw the first of these mares bred to our new Holstein stallion IHB Rio de Janero.
As of 2008 RRWS currently has 2 young fillies by Rio de Janero out of our Northern Classic mares and they are living up to our expectations of having the potential to be superb performance horses in either the dressage or showjumping arena and also being attractive enough for the show ring. We have also sold several mares both NC mares and thoroughbred mares in foal to Rio de Janero and the resulting foals have been of an extremely high standard wih their new owners being very pleased with the results.
The 2008 Breeding season will be our newest, youngest, stallion used for the first time. River Range Coupe de Grace, the final foal from our exported grand prix stallion River Range Copenhagen. Coupe de Grace combines the blood lines of Holsteiner (Northern Classic), Hanoverian (Weltmeyer), Trakehner (Copernicus) and thoroughbred. He is a superbly conformed young horse with the most amazing movement and a super temperment and RRWS is hopeful he will be able to pass on all the attributes to his babies.
VALE - NORTHERN CLASSIC
25 OCTOBER 2008
It is with great sadness we note the passing of the
stud's founding stallion Northern Classic.
Healthy up until the last evening when he was playing over the adjoining fence
with his grand son "Coupe de Grace", Classic died of massive internal
organ failure during the night.
Always a an absolute gentleman to handle and work with he will be greatly missed but leaves behind a great legacy of fabulous horses proudly representing him in the olympic disciplines both in Australia and in several overseas countries.
RRWS has retained several top quality mares by Classic and will still have his son River Range Calcutta and grand son River Range Coupe de Grace standing at stud.
REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND
