NORTHERN CLASSIC
16.3hh, Bay, 1985 to 2008
(Contact - Core de la Bryere - Flaneur)

Northern Classic is by Northern Congress and was bred by Peter and Jan Powels of Northern Warmblood Stud in Victoria, Australia and purchased by River Range Warmblood Stud in January 1988 as a 3 year old.

Northern Classic's Holstein lineage goes back to the great Core de la Bryere on his sire's side and Flaneur on his dam's side.

Northern Classic was partnered with Linda Shore in the dressage arena from 1989 and was retired from the competition arena at end end of 1998 having achieved the level of Prix St George.  In his dressage career Northern Classic won several Queensland Titles including 1993 Queensland Elementary Champion  and 1995 National Equestrian Titles Medium Champion and Reserve Advanced Champion.

As at the end of 2002 Northern Classic has sired over 30 foals for the River Range Warmblood Stud and also has sired many foals to outside mares. Many of his foals far surpass his own qualities, and to date we have found that he always passes on his superb temperment and trainability.

At the 2007 Toowoomba Dressage Championships Northern Classic had progeny competiting from Preliminary to Grand Prix level.

Due to the unexpected demise of Northern Classic in October 2008, we will now only have a limited amount of frozen semen available for visiting mares.

Please contact us for a pricing on frozen semen for the 2010 breeding season

RIVER RANGE COPENHAGEN
16.1hh, Chestnut, 1994

RR Copenhagen is by Northern Classic out of Hannah Honey (a thoroughbred mare by Red Kilt) and was marked as a 'must keep' by the stud very early on, and we have not been disappointed with the decision to retain him for a time as a competition and breeding stallion.

RR Copenhagen  began his dressage career in 1999 with Linda Shore.  In March 2005 he competing with Linda in his first Grand Prix test and, while not brilliant, it was a super effort, scoring a credible 55%, being a first for both horse and rider at this level. this unfortunately was also his final competition with Linda before he left for his new home in Japan.

Copenhagen was sold to Japanese interests to go on to be an FEI horse for Japan. He was trained and competed for a few months with Queensland rider Kelly Layne on behalf of his Japanese owners, and with her steering managed an excellent finish of 6th in the Intermediate I freestyle at the Sydney CDI 2005 before going into quaranteen in preparation for his trip to Japan.

Copenhagen's superb qualities as a stallion and dressage horse will be carried on at RRWS by his son Coup de Grace.

Calcutta babies are now showing their style under saddle. Pic below is 3yo Sotar, gelding out of a Contact mare

RIVER RANGE CALCUTTA
Brown colt, Foaled December 2001,

Sire: Northern Classic
Dam: River Range Lucy XX (Vividly)

Calcutta is a very impressive brown stallion who is a full brother to the outstanding young dressage horse River Range Cincinatti who competes in dressage in Toowoomba.

Calcutta was selected as a future replacement for Copenhagen, being of similar breeding that of Northern Classic x Thoroughbred. He has a wonderful temperment combined with super conformation and movement. His brother, Cincinatti, was such a pleasure to break in and train that it was decided to keep Calcutta entire and see how he matures. We have not been disappointed with the result. Unfortunately due to injury it has been necessary to retire him early from ridden work.

Calcutta will stand to outside mares for the 2009 season and is available for inspection by appointment now. Calcutta now has foals from 3 seasons on the ground and all are superb in their looks, conformation, temperment and movement. The first of him progeny is now under saddle and they are proving to be fabulous to train and very comfortable to ride.

IHB RIO DE JANERO
Bay , Foaled January 2003, Mature approx 16.1hh

Sire: Kendalee River Disc (Riverman)
Dam: Kendalee Dawn (Talisman/Grand Flaneur)

Rio has been bred by International Horse Breeders in Victoria and was purchased from them in December 2003. He has been selected as a future replacement for our senior stallion Northern Classic, and we believe he will be an excellent stallion to breed to mares by Northern Classic.

Rio has quality Holsteiner breeding on both sides with proven performers and producers in both Grand Prix Dressage and Showjumping. He should be a wonderful alternative for Queensland warmblood breeders to send their mares to in the future. He has faultless conformation, extravagant paces and a wonderful temperment.

Rio has been purchased with the development of a small syndicate and we at River Range Warmblood Stud thank those clients who have the faith in our ability to produce this quality stallion to his ultmost potential.

The first of Rio's progeny is now being started under saddle and they are not disappointing our expectations of this stallion. Rio is proving to be the most pre-potent of stallions, consistently improving on the mares he is bred to, producing quality foals who are very correct in their conformation and fabulous to train and handle.

RIVERS COUP DE GRACE
2005, Chestnut Colt
RR Copenhagen x Benalbyn Classique (Weltmeyer)

As this colt matured it became more and more tempting to retain him as a future potential stallion. Now at 4years of age he is simply stunning and we have decided to keep him here and see how he develops.

As a young stallion he is truely stunning in looks and movement and an outstandingly good temperment. He is the last foal from our exported stallion, Copenhagen and is so much his father's son. Out of mare who contains Weltmeyer and Koenigsberg/Copernicus bloodlines he shows all the signs of being a super dressage horse for the future.

With 3 excellent paces and an amazingly unflappable temperment he shows the potential to be able to be a riding stallion to top level dressage.

He has now had 12 months under saddle, having been started Dec 2008, and has simply gone from strength to strength in his work. He will be campaigned at young horse competitions and prelim/novice level dressage in 2010.

2010 Stud Fee $1320
